Proposals - New Public Realm and Community Facilities
The revised planning application provides comprehensive design proposals for the public spaces and the provision of community facilities.
Public Realm
- Designed to meet Police 'Secured by Design' principles
- Two high quality piazzas designed to integrate with adjacent areas
- Introduction of new concepts to create an outdoor performance space and provide a pleasant place to meet friends or to sit and watch the world go by
- Public Artwork by internationally acclaimed sculptor Antony Gormley
- Improved access for pedestrians with direct links onto the promenade
- Extensive seating and new solar powered lighting
- Extensive, native, wildlife-friendly planting to protect and enhance the micro-climate and bio-diversity of the local eco-system to include green walls
- Integration with a new city wide strategy for the public realm in Brighton and Hove
Community Facilities
In addition to the new sports and leisure centre the proposals include significant community facilities that will be available to all residents and visitors in the area, including:
- New Doctors' Surgery
- Pharmacy
- New Police Station
- New public toilets
- Cafes and retail outlets to serve the development and visitors
