The Design Team
Karis Holdings has commissioned three outstanding architectural practices to design the scheme.
Frank Gehry Partners - Frank Gehry is best known for the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and the Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. His diverse and unique work has won numerous architectural awards and he is acclaimed as one of the world's best architects. The King Alfred will be Gehry's first commercial project in Britain; his only other UK building, The Maggie Centre in Dundee, was named as the Building of the Year in 2004 by the Royal Fine Art Commission.
HOK Sport Architecture - HOK Sport Architecture are one of the largest architectural companies in the world and the leading sport and arena architects. The company is responsible for many of the world's premier sporting venues including Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, the Reebok Stadium, and Australia's Olympic Stadiums. HOK Sport is currently working with Norman Foster to design the new Wembley Stadium and they are leading London's bid to host the Olympic Games in 2012.
CZWG Architects - Piers Gough of CZWG is internationally recognized for the work he has accomplished at the National Gallery in London, he is a commissioner for English Heritage and the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment. Piers Gough grew up in Hove and has a great love and knowledge of the locality, its history and architecture.
Antony Gormley - Antony Gormley is one of Britain's finest artists and best known for his Angel of the North sculpture in Gateshead. Antony Gormley will collaborate with Frank Gehry to design public artwork for the King Alfred site.
The design team also includes leading experts in every field from engineering to sustainability.
