Plans - The Design Concept
Frank Gehry has been working for the past three years to capture in his design the spirit, character, and freedom of expression that Brighton & Hove represents. His reference points are the city's architecture, geography, diverse cultural population and, of course, its rich history. One particular historical image of an Edwardian woman captured his imagination and influenced his design. The movement of her dress as she promenaded along the seafront has inspired Gehry to evoke that historical reference in the design and sculptural forms of his buildings.
A detailed planning application was submitted to the local planning authority in September 2005. Feedback from consultation on this planning application has been carefully considered by Karis Holdings and Frank Gehry and the project design team. As a direct result of this consideration the plans have been significantly enhanced and a revised application was submitted to the Local Planning Authority in October 2006, planning application number BH2006/03429. The plans can be viewed at Brighton & Hove City Council, Development Control, Hove Town Hall, Norton Road, Hove, BN3 3BQ. Click here to visit the council's website.
